ENGLISH ANCESTRY · RESEARCH FROM ABROAD

Tracing an English ancestor from another continent?

Your family may have left England generations ago. A familiar surname, a town on a certificate or a profession in an old photograph might be the only clue. You do not have to start with a completed family tree.

Ask about your family story ↗

Follow the person, not just the surname

An English census can sometimes show a household together. Parish registers, certificates, newspapers and other historic material may reveal different parts of the story. The sources vary by period and place, so we check what can reasonably be investigated before agreeing a paid study.

What you could tell us

  • A name and approximate birth or marriage year
  • A county, parish, city or street address
  • An occupation, old certificate or emigration clue

Even one detail may be useful. Please avoid sending sensitive information about living relatives in your first email.

What you receive

A focused PDF report that explains the evidence, references its sources and points out uncertainties. The starter study is usually 2–4 pages, not a promise of a complete family tree.

£149 starter study · Up to four hours on one agreed research question. We check feasibility and explain any exclusions before payment. Extra records or further work are discussed separately.

A common question

Can you research someone who left England for Australia or America?

You are welcome to enquire from either country, or anywhere else. We will assess whether records for the English part of the story are accessible and suitable for a small first project.

We welcome enquiries from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South America and elsewhere. Where you live does not limit your ability to ask.
